March 30th-National Take a Walk in the Park Day
March in Erie PA doesn’t exactly scream ‘picnic weather,’ but at least the snow is gone! It’s time to get back into the routine of getting some fresh air and actually enjoying it, instead of layering up for the cold. What better way to welcome spring than to take a walk in one of our state or local parks? Whichever type you prefer-take time today to appreciate the park of your choice by stopping by for a visit.
One specific park that we think is under-acknowledged is the Erie Bluffs State Park. With ten trails ranging from 1.1 miles or shorter, it is kid friendly and has a balanced variety of shoreline and forested areas. There are only two developed areas in the park which include to Elk Creek access area and the parking lot to the main entrance of the park.
In case you need more motivation to visit a park near you, researchers in the U.S and Canada have significant evidence that suggests taking a walk in a park may have positive influence over cognitive functioning. So pack up the car and take a walk in the woods, and bring the dog and the kids with you!
